Brainspotting
Brainspotting helps patients unlock and resolve traumatic memories stored in the brain from focusing your gaze on specific spots (called “brainspots”) related to their emotional distress. These spots are identified through the client’s body sensations, emotions, or by tracking eye movements. The therapist provides a safe environment for clients to process and integrate these experiences.
Brainspotting works on the understanding that the eyes are windows into the brain, and by locating and processing brainspots, individuals can release stored trauma and distress. Unlike therapies which require the patient to talk things out, Brainspotting bypasses the need for extensive verbalization of traumatic events, making it suitable for clients who struggle to articulate their feelings or memories.
The process is non-invasive and is supported by patient’s capacity for self-healing. By accessing the brain-body connection, Brainspotting aims to facilitate the natural healing mechanisms of the brain. This can lead to profound shifts in perception, emotional regulation, and behavior.
Brainspotting is versatile modality for therapy and can be applied to various psychological issues, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, and performance anxiety. It’s also effective for enhancing performance in sports, arts, and business by addressing underlying emotional blocks.
